Strengthening School Governance for Quality Education

Review of Progress

A joint meeting of the School Management Committee (SMC) heads and Parent–Teacher Association (PTA) heads from Aambas Primary School, Janaki Primary School, Pabitra Primary School, and Nawa Dibya Jyoti was recently held at the SCDC Office in Bardaghat, facilitated by Yubraj Chapagain, Director of SCDC Nepal. The meeting highlighted that SCDC’s initiatives in quality education have led to visible improvements in school structure, classroom management, and teaching practices. Teachers are now more engaged, and the use of cooperative learning has helped students develop stronger communication, participation, and memory skills. The learning gap between students has begun to narrow. However, participants also shared that ensuring regular attendance of students from disadvantaged families remains a challenge, and emphasized the need to increase parental engagement and extracurricular activities to further support student growth.

Strategy for the Future

Looking ahead, the meeting agreed on several strategies to strengthen school governance and student learning. Regular SMC and PTA meetings will be scheduled, with clear responsibilities assigned and relevant stakeholders invited to participate. Mentor teachers will continue to guide schools by tracking classroom progress, while parents of irregular students will be approached to ensure consistent attendance. Additional initiatives will also be launched to promote active learning and improve overall achievements.

Conclusion

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment that quality education can only be achieved through the combined efforts of teachers, parents, and school leaders. By working together and strengthening governance, the four schools are setting a strong example for Bardaghat. With the facilitation of SCDC Nepal, these steps are helping to build better schools and create brighter futures for children in the community.
